Hi, and welcome to The Vegan Crew, a Kansas City-based vegan lifestyle blog. I’m Bobbie and I’m so glad you’re here! The Vegan Crew is where I share my experiences, discoveries and useful tips (mostly in the form of recipes) to help make veganism more accessible and to demonstrate just how joyful and delicious living compassionately can be.
I live in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area with my husband, Erik (resident taste-tester and supporter extraordinaire), and an orange tabby named Reagan. Since the age of 10, I’ve been an on-again/off-again vegetarian, driven largely by ethical reasons. I was always very adamant, however, that I would never go vegan. I’d say, “Oh, I’d never do that.” Or, “That’s too extreme.” Or, “That’s too weird.” But, well, here I am.
In early 2009 I returned to the vegetarian lifestyle and began reading all the literature on industry practices and nutrition I could get my hands on. I was appalled at the inherently cruel treatment involved in “raising” animals for food or other products and I was very intrigued by the health benefits associated with a whole foods, plant-based diet. You can read more about my journey to veganism here.
At first, going vegan seemed daunting — but I have found it to be a joyful, fulfilling and empowering experience. It is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It is incredibly satisfying to know that with everything I eat, with every purchase I make, I am living my life in a way that exemplifies my values of kindness, compassion and justice. I’m not a chef, I’m not a photographer, but I do love good food and am very passionate about veganism and advocating on behalf of the animals.
I love hearing from you. So if you have any questions or comments, or if there is anything you’d like to see addressed on The Vegan Crew, please feel free to drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org or contact me here.
