Nacho Mom’s Queso Review & Giveaway!

Vegan MoFo 2011 – #6

I can’t believe that Vegan MoFo week one is already over!  For those of you on Pinterest, I setup a board specifically to capture some of the Vegan MoFo goodness.  Feel free to check it out here.  It was just setup today, so there are a lot of great items missing from week one, but I hope to update it daily for the rest of the month.

I’ve been hearing about Nacho Mom’s line of vegan quesos for some time now and have been wanting to get my hands on a few jars, but unfortunately it isn’t sold (yet) in the Kansas City area.  I reached out to Nacho Mom’s to let them know that I would be participating in Vegan MoFo this year, and they agreed to send two varieties to me to review.  How nice are they!?

They sent a jar of the Fire Roasted Queso and a jar of the VooDoo Queso (they sell a third variety as well, their original Ultimate Vegan Queso).

Nacho Mom's Vegan Quesos - Fire Roasted and VooDoo You’ll notice that the jars are partly empty.  Unbeknownst to me, Erik conducted his own little taste test while I was at work on Wednesday.  I found out via Twitter:

He claims he thought I had already opened them.  Apparently the “pop” of the newly opened jars didn’t deter him, and he proceeded to dig in anyway.  Really though, who can blame him?  He was completely right.  Nacho Mom’s hit it out of the park with these quesos.  They are irresistible.

The quesos are creamy, and I love the large chunks of tomatoes and peppers in each.  I enjoy anything spicy, and in addition to the heat, the Fire Roasted Queso has a wonderful smokey taste.  The VooDoo is a fantastically flavorful bean dip that has a lot of heat as well.

We primarily made gooey, cheesy nachos, but I also mixed in a dollop of the Fire Roasted Queso with my three-bean chili, which added a nice touch.  The possibilities are endless, and you can use the quesos in anything from tacos or burritos to a tasty multi-layered bean dip or chili-cheese fries.

True to the name, this is “nacho” mom’s regular queso.  It’s so much better.  A quick look at the nutritional panels allows for some interesting comparisons.  For example, your average dairy-based queso is loaded with fat, oils, unpronounceable chemicals, and can pack upwards of 30 to 60 calories per serving.  Nacho Mom’s, on the other hand, is fat-free, contains no oils, is all-natural, and has a mere 10 calories per serving.  You could eat the entire jar and only consume 160 calories.  And yet I dare you to find anyone that can tell that these quesos contain no queso at all.

Click here for a complete list of retail stores that sell Nacho Mom’s.  If it’s not sold in your area (I’m talking about you, KC), you can order online or request it at your local natural grocery.

I’d come up with a veggie burger and put the queso sauce in the middle and dizzle another over some fries with vegan chili on top! I’d love to try both!

I’ve been so curious about this line of quesos since I’ve been reading about it on blogs. I’d like to satisfy that curiosity by making a big batch of chili cheese fries!

I’ve been wanting to try this forever! I’m most excited about the fire roasted kind and I know I would be all too eager to make nachos with it.

I LOVE Nacho Mom’s!!! My fave is the Fire Roasted, but I like the other two as well. What an awesome giveaway! I love just dipping my blue corn tortillas into the quesos. As for the bean dip, I like putting it on top of some rice with chopped tomatoes and taco seasoning.

The Voodoo Queso is definitely quesadilla bound, and the Fire Roasted Queso will top a nice big baked potato. Sometimes the simplest things complement best.
Thank you and Nacho Mom for the give-away!

I’m newly vegan (and just started following you on twitter @gumloo) and can’t wait to come up with an awesome recipe using this for my (formerly) meat and cheese loving husband!

I’d have some of course and then I’d give it to my carnivore hubby as a cool new product, and after he loves it I’ll inform him of the good news….it’s worked before it’ll work again…:)

I would use the fire roasted queso because i’m not a HUUUGE fan of too much spice so i’m playing it safe! I would put this on top of nachos definetly!

Two favorite ways to have Nacho Mom’s Fire Roasted Queso – in vegan tacos right underneath the guac topping and in baked potatoes.
